JOB OPPORTUNITIES

2 positions for POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

Planned start date: 1 November 2014

           Duration: fixed-term contract 3 years

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral research position in an interdisciplinary research team investigating the use of Raman micro-spectroscopy for imaging and diagnosis of cancers. The team consists of researchers from the School of Physics and Astronomy, School of Medicine, and the Dermatology Department at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The aim of the project is to develop multivariate statistical methods for accurate imaging and diagnosis of tumours cancers during cancer surgery (click for more details). The focus of this research is to develop fast methods for spectral imaging and optical fibre endoscopes based on Raman micro-spectroscopy. For this position, the candidates should have a first degree in physics or another relevant science subject and a PhD in Raman spectroscopy or a related subject, such as other optical spectroscopy techniques. Expertise in optical and spectroscopy instrumentation development is essential. Candidates need not necessarily have previous experience in spectroscopy applications to cells and tissues, but will need to have some previous experience in biological applications and a willingness to develop substantial expertise in current scientific developments relevant to this area.
